I simply realized that if more people thought like you in the place that I came from, things would have been very different for me. I don’t have to like the way you said things to acknowledge that.

Speaking honestly, I’ve tried both the honey and the vinegar with the adults in my life. I’m not saying this for pity, and I don’t want your kindness even if you thought to extend it, but I was punished at my former school for what you’ve named as “bisexuality.” I suppose it’s still hard to wrap my mind around a world where there isn’t any danger in exploring.
Living as my authentic self is one thing, and something I can do easily, but it’s hard to drag others down with me. Your message triggered that fear in me.
